"There are no such things as absolutes"

This line has bothered me for a while. It in itself is an absolute, but stating what it is stating would mean that the line could not possibly exist.

An absolute is something that has to happen/will happen.
Death is an absolute, but this can be disproved if the possibility of immortality is introduced.

The absolute "death" is not always possible, as not everything dies.

The line "there are no such things as absolutes" is an oxymoron. A line that contradicts itself.

This all may seem confusing, but discuss if you can.
Are there such things as absolutes?

OK I serioussly don't get this stuff so if someone explained it to me, that would be nice. I have heard of absolute value which is the distance from a number to zero. There is also absolute zero which is the possible temprature of space (around -450F). Do these count as absolutes?
